Thinking about a new fence?
Whether you're going to build a fence yourself, or if you plan on hiring a contractor for the job, there are a number of things you need to think about before you do anything else.
For example, it is important to get a sense of what your fence project is going to cost. However, before you run out and request an estimate (or buy your materials) you need to identify exactly what you want out of your fence.
We reccommend you consider the following list as a starting point when planning your fence:
- Uses - Do you know what will it be used for? Privacy? Security? Pets? Aesthetics?
- Design - What style or design do you want in your fence?
- Materials - What type of material do you want to use? Vinyl? Wood? Chain link?...If you chose "wood," do you know what kind?
- Cost - Is cost a determining factor? Find out what your ideal fence would cost, and what your budget can actually afford.
Your answers to the above questions should provide you with a better understanding of where to start with your fence project, and what exactly to expect. The more you know now, the easier it will be when you need to hire a contractor, or when you need to buy materials to build it yourself.

Craigslist is great for some things, but when you are dealing with the significant cost of a fence, you want to make sure the person building it is trustworthy and professional.
